Phalguna Shukla Paksha Ekadashi

Amalaki Ekadashi 2026

Friday, February 27, 2026 Shukla Paksha Phalguna Month

Amalaki Ekadashi is a sacred Ekadashi dedicated to Lord Vishnu and the holy Amla (Indian Gooseberry) tree. Observing this vrat is believed to grant the same merit as donating a thousand cows.

Significance of Amalaki Ekadashi

Amalaki Ekadashi, also known as Amla Ekadashi, falls on the Ekadashi (11th day) of the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) in the month of Phalguna. In 2026, this auspicious day falls on Friday, February 27.

This Ekadashi derives its name from the Amalaki (Amla or Indian Gooseberry) tree, which is considered sacred in Hinduism. The Amla tree is believed to be a manifestation of Lord Vishnu himself. According to the Brahmanda Purana, Lord Vishnu once appeared in the form of an Amla tree to bless his devotees.

It is believed that observing Amalaki Ekadashi vrat with devotion washes away all sins, including those accumulated over many lifetimes. The merit earned is said to be equivalent to donating a thousand cows (Go-daan), which is considered one of the highest forms of charity in Hindu tradition.
